In the past year the Beckman Institute has acquired a new 3T whole-body magnet that will allow further expansion of MRI and fMRI research. This new magnet set into motion a major change at the Beckman Institute: swapping the space the Biomedical Imaging Center (BIC) occupies on the south side of campus with the Integrated Systems Laboratory (ISL) in the basement of the Beckman Institute.
In the past few months both BIC and ISL have begun the arduous task of moving their equipment and staff to their new locations. Both groups are making every effort to ensure that the least amount of interruption is being made to research projects being conducted at their facilities.
The new 3T magnet is expected to be delivered in July 2009 with most of the space transitions being completed to coincide with its delivery.
